Muncho Lake Provincial Park

When driving to the Yukon via the Alaska Highway you must pass through Muncho Lake Provincial Park in northern British Columbia. Of course one would never just pass through this scenic park without stopping. On our way north we always stop at the Strawberry Flats campground. In 2006 we pitched our tent right on the edge of the turquoise Muncho Lake and watched the sun light up various mountains around the lake at different times of day - like this one to the west/behind the campground that was lit up with peach tones after 11:00 pm.

On our way south from the Yukon we always stop in the park's MacDonald campground. In 2010 it had been quite cool, cloudy and windy when we passed through on our way north - just as it was when we visited in 2006. However on that day it was hot and rather muggy. We both even went in for a swim in the cold 12-kilometre long almost always rippled mountain lake. During dinner the clouds suddenly parted, the water flattened and Ron spent about 45 minutes getting some stunning mountain reflections. Then the light was gone and the wind came back up again. Timing is everything.
