Perce, Quebec

We were just about to head to dinner after shooting Gannets on Ile Bonaventure in the Gaspe region of Quebec. I had photographed this scene at the base of Rocher Perce many times in the past so I didn't think I needed to shoot it again. I saw the light and mentioned to Lori that maybe I should just have a quick look and see if I should shoot. Otherwise, I would fret and wonder if I was missing something all though dinner. As usual, dinner would have to wait. At low-tide you can walk on the ocean floor out to and part way around this beautiful rock. We had timed it perfectly with wonderful light and a reflection in the tidal pools. I was standing in shadow so I spot metered off the side of the rock, opened up 2 stops and used the filter to hold back the top part of the exposure. I have always loved the colour of this image. That fact that there are 14 people at the base helps to give Perce scale.

Pentax 6X7, 55 mm lens, Fuji Velvia 50 and a 2 stop Lee Neutral Density filter.
